After owning one horse that became too strong for me --due to my own ignorance and overfeeding, and then acquiring another horse that was a known run-away from the racetrack, who I got along famously with --until I listened to someone prod me to "let's see what he can do" I was nearly killed, when this true run-away took me under a downed tree, that hit my skull, and knocked me off, and gave me 150 stitches and 6 wks off work. My lessons were deserved, and my goal was and is to block this from happening to anyone else. The reasons behind this were meat for my upcoming study that has been life-long --ever since.
From 1972 I started with two horses, and the family grew. This is history, and what I learned from them is profound. They have changed my life and we help others to also see life differently --by what they have taught me over 35 years with them --as a developing family. I love family --however the human family [speaking for myself and through observation] is so wrought with emotion and expectation. The family of the horse gather --not because they are invited, but because they love. Their integrity is superb, more so than many humans I have met. They respect children {foals] and the elderly, and will give up their hay so the mare and foal can eat first. I try to live by what THEY taught me. My parents taught me nothing! Period! Interesting, how this has become my strength, because I learned to do things myself.
I was and still am a nature girl, an earth person preferring the natural to anything artificial. If I didn't have such spiritual experiences, from 7 yrs. of age --that I didn't understand at that time, I still from age 7 --always knew that I was a 'Child of God'.
Observing humans and their family life was still not as good as what I was given, by knowing the horses. Therefore I was really alone, most of my life --when it came to people, in my own family as well as through school and my first marriage. I have been filled from the inside out when involved with the horse. Their language --I understood.. People speak through their teeth, saying what they think others want to hear. Horses are too completely honest --to do that. What is --is. No excuses! Others have not understand me, and that was/has been my loneliness. Only the horses know.
This is part of what I help people to find, that peace and contentment from learning about the natural horse. Natural is! Training --is to make a horse do what is NOT natural. Natural work with the horse is purely a sharing experience, of two beings finding a center for doing, or living, and it is done from the heart and soul of both beings. Money or gain has nothing to do with it. It is the highest form of caring and sharing, and is often missed in human relationships --that have an edge of doubt attached.
The trust factor is a huge factor in human relationships as well, however in the relationship with the horse and riding, there must be a reality of the natural instincts and impulses --to keep both safe. Humans must first learn to relax around others [horse or human] before learning more. This is bypassed in the equine programs of today. Much is and has been missing.
To learn well --from the start --I mean really well --will parallel life itself. Our programs have helped people deeply in ways they too often cannot even describe. they just know they are so much more AWARE of what is around them and the energy they learn to feel --is directional, when it comes to their next move --physically, mentally, emotionally, or spiritually. Life becomes something you want to eat up. Yet you want to slow down to savor all the flavors, to ingest every bit of learning possible.
Much of what we teach and coach is not taught traditionally. We will remain different, because of our experiences, and the near death experience [NDE] --that has intensified my sensitivity levels.
